What We Do

Social Capital Partners is a nonprofit founded by philanthropist Bill Young in 2001 to focus on designing and implementing new financial tools that broaden economic opportunity, security and inclusion.

With projects that range from investing in social enterprises to helping businesses transition to employee ownership, Social Capital Partners is always looking for our next Big Idea.

Today, we’re focused on improving access to asset ownership and addressing rising wealth concentration through investment, public policy and advocacy.

What Makes Us Different

Independently Funded

We take on ambitious projects that will produce significant benefits for working people. We tolerate risk if we see a strategic opportunity to produce enduring change, and we take on entrenched interests if there is a real opportunity to improve the lives of Canadians.

Diverse Experience

Our team includes former entrepreneurs, private sector investors, and political and public sector leaders. Together, we identify ideas that can be implemented by governments and will produce the right incentives for markets. We pursue practical ideas that can work in practice and at scale.

Partner Focused

We work with broad coalitions and networks to de-risk ambitious ideas so that governments, the private sector and non-profits can experiment with innovative ideas. We support our allies, but we aggressively pursue our ideas without fear of losing partners or annoying our friends.
